The Olympia Traveller de Luxe
The German compact of the 1970s: light, solid, hard to kill. One of the most widespread portables in France.
Small, but German
The Traveller de Luxe is Olympia’s compact portable, built from the 1970s. It carries the Wilhelmshaven factory’s build standards into a much smaller format: barely larger than a sheet of A4 once closed.
It comes in many shades — white, blue, red, green — and very often with an AZERTY keyboard, as it sold widely in France.
What it is like to use
The strike is crisp and slightly firm, typically German. It has a tabulator, which makes it more versatile than other compacts of the same size.
It is a credible travel machine: light enough to carry, solid enough to take it.
What we check in the workshop
- Segment and typebars cleaned and degreased.
- Typing action, line spacing and tabulator adjusted.
- Carriage and return checked.
- Condition of the rubber platen.
- New ribbon, then a full test page.
The right ribbon
Every machine leaves with a new ribbon fitted. When the time comes to change it, we stock ribbons that fit this model — ordinary spools will not always do.
